Free crèche? That is what I needed when I started my business making Natural Food Grade Art Materials. My parents live abroad and although I have mum friends, but they have their parents helping out and so were never really interested in taking it in turns to look after my children. How can I afford childcare when I am not yet working? And how can I go to work without childcare? It was a catch-22 situation.
So I promised myself that when I was looking to hire, I would help other mums in a similar situation who are not yet receiving free childcare entitlement (funding for 3 years+). Here I am now, only five months after launching my website http://www.tiny-land.co.uk, and I have reached a point of maximum capacity – I can’t generate any more products alone to keep up with the orders. I need more hands!
I have found a wonderful location in Horley which can accommodate me and a couple of creative colleagues, and not only do they have beautiful grounds including woodland, a campfire and playground, they have accepted and are excited about the idea of me opening a crèche facility!
This will be a Steiner-inspired environment; mums come to work and drop off their child at the crèche with their nappies and a packed lunch, and then take it in turns to run the crèche at a ratio of 3 children to 1 adult. The day will run from 9.30-2.30 and consist of lots of physical and practical activities, life and bush skills and free play. The location is working towards self-sufficiency so the children will be helping out with building vegetable beds and growing their own fruit and vegetables.
All equipment will be sourced by the parents through local donations, very much a co-operative crèche, and parents will mutually agree and accept anyone who comes on board.
The only thing we need now to make this crèche a reality is a Summer House for the children to stay in during wet or cooler weather. We are looking to raise £6,000 to contribute towards the overall cost. If you are able to donate, please visit our crowdfunding page! If you are able to donate just £20, you will be given in return a set of 6 Toddler Crayons (made entirely from plant material) when we have set up the crèche.
